PLEDGE

PLEDGE

Public Service and Safety has always been my calling and purpose. As the Sheriff of Charleston County, I will be committed to serving and protecting Charleston County in a way that is professional, compassionate, unbiased, ethical and with full transparency of all policies, procedures, and practices.

Just as I swore pledges to serve and protect our nation and our community, I humbly submit my pledge to Charleston County as our next Sheriff:

I pledge to serve with integrity, honor and respect – providing the highest level of professional law enforcement services to all residents of Charleston County, while protecting your tax dollars.

I pledge to work closely with our municipal, state and federal partners.

I pledge to utilize proactive and community policing in unincorporated Charleston County through consistent and data-driven staffing and a commitment to addressing specific public safety concerns of residents.

I pledge to keep our students, teachers, and schools safe – building upon my previous work of implementing the first formal school safety plan in Charleston County and working directly with and in support of the Charleston County School District Operations/Security and Emergency Management Team, Charleston County School District Leadership, school board members and private schools’ safety and leadership teams.

I pledge to operate a secure and safe jail – recruiting and retaining professional jail staff and providing them with the best training, support, and pay to effectively carry out their duties.

I pledge to prioritize mental health care and address mental health crisis professionally, be it during an initial encounter with law enforcement or during incarceration, to ensure the safety of the individual in crisis as well as the responding deputies and jail staff.

I pledge to work with our local, state and federal partners to stop the illegal import and distribution of fentanyl in our communities and provide life-saving support and education to those experiencing addiction and to their families.

I pledge to work in partnership with the Solicitor’s Office to ensure violent criminals remain in jail and are not back on the streets to commit more violent crime.
